Top 5 Reasons Why My Lifestyle is Better Than Theirs
There are so many gay and lesbian young people out there that I talk to all the time who wish they could change who they were. My mom used to tell me that she was okay with me liking girls, but hated that I had one more thing to deal with on top of being young, biracial, and a female. But no; I had to go and make things just that much harder on myself and fall in love with a girl or two. I used to question why I felt the way I did and try to do things to change it, and in the past few years I have grown to see the light.
Now, I can’t see who would be straight if they had a choice! I know some women just love their male member, but outside of that the life of a straight person has nothing that I don’t have or couldn’t get. This got me to thinking…of all of the reasons why I think my lifestyle rocks.
From all of these thoughts I have condensed them and come up with ‘The Top 5 Reasons Why Being a Lesbian Rocks,’ at least for me. Maybe you agree; maybe you don’t.
In no particular order, here are my top five reasons:
#1: Drag Queens.
Straight people just can not enjoy drag queens. If they do, it is nothing like the level of appreciation that I can have. Don’t take them TOO seriously. They are entertainment! Also, they are some of the most beautiful ‘women’ that I have ever seen. As a kid, they used to scare me. Now I love the shows! If you have never been to a drag show, you should definitely check one out someday very soon.
#2: Gay Bars
Gay bars are another one of the top reasons why I think that my lifestyle is so much fun. Straight people are fun SURE; gay people REALLY know how to party. Also, it is a nice boost to a girl’s ego when she is stopped by every other man in the room and told how ‘FABulous’ she looks. And they don’t want to get in my pants. Go figure!
#3: Platonic Friendships
Although I am beginning to rethink this one, it makes the list. Platonic friendships are one reason why being a Lesbian is so much fun for me. I can be friends with women and friends with men with NO strings attached. I don’t have to worry about HIM or HER trying to hit on me and if they do it is usually all in good fun. Most of ‘our people’ know how to take NO for an answer.
#4: Gay PRIDE Festivals and Events
The summer is coming up and if you are what I call a ‘real homo’ then you know what that means. This is PRIDE season, and with that comes all of the barbecues, picnics, festivals, rallies, parades, and amusement park visits that a girl could ever want to take part in. What will the straight people be doing that day? Beats me. They can come, too. Pride is for people who love someone who has pride or just plain support the lifestyle.
#5: Who Wants to Be Like Everybody Else, Anyway?
If you want to be like every single person in the world and fit in like a well-sized shoe than being straight is the lifestyle for you.
If you like to have fun, meet people, have fun and a sense of community than a life like mine may be for you. If you are a girl or guy that just can’t seem to get with the program, don’t worry. We can still be friends. I’m gay and good at platonic friendships (read above).
